Tom Latchford

Tom co-founded Raising IT in 2009 when he saw that raising £1m in memory of a university friend was a lot more difficult than it needed to be. Already immersed in the charity sector, working as a digital consultant and volunteering in his spare time, he recognised the huge potential for technology to revolutionise fundraising.

Tom had never intended to start a tech company. Raising IT was born out of his personal determination to make the most powerful online tools accessible to charities of whatever size, transforming the scale of their impact. As more organisations benefited from his vision, the company identified common needs and tailored its approach accordingly.

At the beginning of 2014 Tom recognised that Raising IT could have the most positive impact as a product company for the charity space, and relaunched with the help of millions of pounds raised from external investors. Despite running one of the UK’s fastest growing tech companies, though, Tom’s singular drive has always kept Raising IT 100% committed to helping charities make an ever greater difference.

It’s no surprise he’s racked up the awards. Tom’s been recognised by WorldSkills as UK Entrepreneur of the Year and by The Big Society as One of Britain's Top Twenty Tech Social Entrepreneurs, while the British Library showcased Raising IT as a Success Story.

The power of his ideas and his theatre-derived presentation skills make Tom a formidable speaker, in demand across the globe. He’s spoken at events ranging from TEDx and the Cambridge Union to the world's largest charity conference in San Diego with the Association of Fundraising Professionals and for the Fundraising Institute of New Zealand.

Tom’s not the sort of entrepreneur to forget what goes on the ground, however. He continues to volunteer for Great Ormond Street Hospital and raise money for Parkinson’s UK, while giving up more of his spare time as a Trustee for environmental campaigning charity Hubbub and Chairman of the Belarus Free Theatre.

Raising IT is now the UK’s leading online fundraising and marketing platform, but Tom’s only just getting started.
